Threads of Tales: Cross-Cultural Storytelling Workshop

discover the details

Exploring storytelling through traditional Bangladeshi embroidery in a special event at Seven Stories.

Threads of Tales is a British Council–funded collaboration between Bok Bok Books and HerStory Foundation Bangladesh.
The project explores traditional Nakshi Kantha embroidery as a storytelling medium, using Nakshi Kantha motifs to retell Bengali folklore and children’s stories.

As part of the project, HerStory has created a unique embroidered storytelling prompt—a beautiful, tactile object that invites interaction.

Threads of Tales is a morning of intergenerational and cross-cultural storytelling for families.  We invite you to learn the traditional Bangladeshi embroidery technique that transforms cloth into narrative.

The event includes two artist-led sessions using textiles as prompts for shared storytelling.

Workshop Overview

  • Story Session – Participants explore the embroidered book, engage with Nakshi Kantha motifs, and share their own stories.
  • Motif Design Session – Participants create and sketch their own motifs inspired by folklore and personal experiences.
