Free digital Authors into Schools event!

Join bestselling author Chitra Soundar for a special digital event based on her series ‘Nikhil & Jay’ now a CBeebies adaptation.

Seven Stories are bringing the magic of storytelling into school classrooms and assembly halls in this one-of-a-kind digital event perfect for KS1 classes.

This event is free for schools and home-educators to join but you must book one spot for your class or school group to ensure access.

Event structure:

  • Chitra will introduce Nikhil and Jay and their family.
  • Listen to Chitra read a snippet from Nikhil and Jay – Flying High
  • Watch a a short clip of Nikhil & Jay on CBeebies.
  • Come prepared with your questions for Chitra about Nikhil & Jay, and about writing and being an author! There will be time at the end for a Q&A.

Event lasts approximately 45mins – 1 hour

Booking process:

When booking for your class or school group, please select ONE seat to account for your whole group.

ABOUT Nikhil & Jay:

Join brothers Nikhil and Jay as they go on lots of adventures, singing, dancing and doing all sorts of crafting activities! From dressing up as a butterfly fairy to being detectives to solve the case of the missing appalams – they are always up to something.

Each book has four short stories, perfect for independent reading, or reading at bedtime.

The book series is illustrated by Soofiya and published by Otter-Barry Books.

Chitra Soundar’s young fiction series Nikhil and Jay is now a CBeebies preschool sitcom. You can watch all episodes on BBC iPlayer here.

ABOUT the author:

Chitra Soundar is an internationally published, award-winning author of children’s books, writer of kids TV, audio and theatre. She has published over 60 books for children of all ages, across genre and format.

Her books have been nominated and shortlisted for multiple awards in the UK and US including the Kate Greenaway Medal for Illustration, Surrey Children’s Book Award and Inclusive Book Awards.

She is also the co-founder of Colourful Connections, a collective for PoC in UK Kids Media and the co-founder of SAIL Fest, UK’s first South Asian Literature Festival.

Her TV recent credits include Music Time for Netflix, Grandma Mei Stories for Audible, Music Time for Netflix, The Woohoos for Milkshake! TV. Her young fiction series Nikhil and Jay is currently airing on CBeebies. Chitra has written multiple episodes on the show and serves as one of the executive producers.  Find out more here.
