discover the details

Did you know that bubblewrap started life as a new type of wallpaper that didn't catch on?! Or that Lonnie Johnson invented the Nerf Super Soaker while working on a NASA mission to Saturn?

Blue Peter award-winning Thirsk author Mike Barfield joins us for an event with his new book, ‘The World’s First Rollercoaster: and Other Amazing Inventions’!  Join Mike for a fun-filled morning as he travels in time through inventions, hosts a quiz and answers your burning questions about life as an author.

This is the perfect event for middle grade readers (7-11) and aspiring inventors!

About:
The book tells the fascinating true stories behind an amazing range of inventions and innovations, from bubble wrap and the barcode, to – of course – the world’s first rollercoaster. Illustrated in a lively comic-strip format, we meet the inventors we know and love as well as young ‘wizards’, encouraging kids to make their own inventions, with instructions on how to submit a patent.
