A celebration of creativity underpins Seven Stories: our Collection documents the creative act, and our exhibitions and educational programmes interpret this original material in unconventional but meaningful ways. Our aim is to cultivate an appreciation of books and their making, and inspire creativity for everyone.
Seven Stories has been mounting exhibitions since 1998 – first in borrowed venues and now in its own home. Here, we provides the only exhibition space in the UK wholly dedicated to showcasing the incomparable legacy of British writing and illustrating for children.
With exhibitions changing every year, we’ve showcased the impressive work of children’s authors such as Judith Kerr, Michael Morpurgo and David McKee, as well as working alongside communities to showcase our impressive archive in ways that reflect a modern and ever-changing landscape.
Become a Friend of Seven Stories
Seven Stories is a charity, and every gift is invaluable to us. We rely on your support to continue to put stories at the heart of every childhood. Reading holds the extraordinary ability to break down barriers, create new worlds and inspire pathways to imagination. Some museums charge for entry, but we prefer to keep our building and extensive archive of children’s literature free for everyone to access and enjoy. By becoming a Friend of Seven Stories and making an annual donation of £75 we can deliver on our promise.
Seven Stories works with families, schools and communities across the North-East and beyond to promote literacy skills and instil a life-long love of reading for children and young people. Your support helps us to empower future generations to grow with confidence through storytelling and have the courage and the creativity to tell their own story.
Sign up to become a Friend of Seven Stories and you will receive:

Join us today!"I visited Seven Stories with a 3 year old, a 7 year old and a 15 year old....we all found things to love about this place! I wanted to stay in the exhibitions longer to read all the finer detail while the kids wanted more time dressing up, creating stories with the shadow puppets and trying on some of the Queen's Knickers!"
