We believe that every child and young person should have access to stories, regardless of background, circumstance and reading ability.
We are a registered charity dedicated to collecting, preserving and celebrating children’s books.
We champion the importance of reading and its lifelong benefits for children and young people through our bespoke educational programmes and access to our free online Collection featuring work from over 100 years of children’s literature.
Extensive research has proven that nurturing reading for pleasure will have life-long benefits for a child. We believe we have a special responsibility to put stories at the heart of every single childhood and your support enables us to do so.

Our Work
We care for a world class archive of children’s literature and run a lively visitor centre that celebrates books through an inspiring programme of exhibitions, events, performances and of course – storytelling.
An ambitious outreach programme sees our exhibitions tour across the UK, takes books and their authors into schools and uses stories to help disadvantaged children and young people read, learn, succeed and achieve their own potential.

Seven Stories is a charity, and every gift is invaluable to us. We rely on your support to continue to put stories at the heart of every childhood. Reading holds the extraordinary ability to break down barriers, create new worlds and inspire pathways to imagination. Some museums charge for entry, but we prefer to keep our building and extensive archive of children’s literature free for everyone to access and enjoy. By becoming a Friend of Seven Stories and making an annual donation of £75 we can deliver on our promise.
Seven Stories works with families, schools and communities across the North-East and beyond to promote literacy skills and instil a life-long love of reading for children and young people. Your support helps us to empower future generations to grow with confidence through storytelling and have the courage and the creativity to tell their own story.
